Synonymns Amanita inopinata Cap Convex, expanding with age, becoming flattened or concave, covered with a thick dingy grey brown felt which breaks up into coarse warty scales revealing the dark brown cuticle below, to about 8 cm across Gills Broad, free, whitish to beige Stem Tapering from the middle to the apex, lower half forming a tapered rooting base, lower half of the stem decorated with coarse upturned scales, upper half finely scaly, greyish, with a delicate greyish ring Flesh Firm Smell Indistinct Taste Unknown Season Mostly autumn, rarely summer and early winter Distribution Rarely recorded, with most records from south eastern England, and a few from Oxfordshire, Norfolk and Herfordshire Habitat On disturbed soil in parks, gardens and cemeteries, associated with deciduous and coniferous trees Microscopic Features Spores ellipsoidal, amyloid, smooth (7.5-12) x (6-8) µm2 Edibility Unknown, avoid Notes Believed to have been introduced into Britain, this species is also found in Holland and New Zealand.
