Convex, expanding with age, becoming flattened or concave, covered with a thick dingy grey brown felt which breaks up into coarse warty scales revealing the dark brown cuticle below, to about 8 cm across

Distribution

Rarely recorded, with most records from south eastern England, and a few from Oxfordshire, Norfolk and Herfordshire

On disturbed soil in parks, gardens and cemeteries, associated with deciduous and coniferous trees

Spores ellipsoidal, amyloid, smooth (7.5-12) x (6-8) µm2

Unknown, avoid

Notes

Believed to have been introduced into Britain, this species is also found in Holland and New Zealand.
